About Dynamic Control Tactics
Dynamic Control Tactics are de-escalation training experts in Ontario, providing scenario-based training for EMS, police, military, healthcare, and security professionals. Our team has decades of combined experience delivering practical skills to manage conflict safely and prevent workplace violence.
Why DCTactics exists
Most defensive-tactics training still relies on outdated drills that don’t match real first-responder environments. Teams end up with inconsistent techniques and avoidable injuries.
DCTactics exists to give agencies safer, simpler, and policy-aligned control options built around real scenarios, not theory, so teams can operate confidently and professionally under pressure.

How We Teach
Our methodology focuses on simple, reliable mechanics tested under realistic pressure:
- Static Foundations: Build base, positioning, framing, and safe disengagement habits before adding resistance.
- Constraint-Led Drills: Controlled, low-risk drills that develop problem-solving, balance, and control without overwhelming the team.
- Scenario Labs: Policy-aligned, medically-aware scenarios that build articulation, teamwork, and safer decision-making under real-world stress.
- The entire process emphasizes de-escalation first, safer contact, and strong documentation habits that protect both staff and the organization.
We prioritize communication, situational awareness, and risk reduction. Defensive control is only used when necessary, reinforced through realistic scenario-based training. Our programs are designed to teach professionals how to de-escalate conflicts safely, reduce stress, and maintain safety for themselves and others. Studies show scenario-based training reduces workplace incidents (*PubMed).
Meet Jake!
Jake Charette is the founder of Dynamic Control Tactics and a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt with over 20 years of martial arts experience. As a long-time coach at Limitless Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, he has worked with students of all ages and experience levels, developing a coaching style centered on simplicity, safety, and real-world problem solving.
Before launching DCTactics, Jake spent years working in group homes for behavioural youth and in a wide range of security roles. These environments made de-escalation, crisis intervention, and safe physical control a daily reality. The work required calm decision-making under pressure and helped shape his practical, people-first approach to defensive training.
Today, Jake applies those same principles to first-responder settings. He has experience training paramedics and front line teams, with a focus on non-weapon, position-based control, medical awareness, and defensible decision-making. His instruction is designed to reduce injuries, build confidence, and ensure techniques align with operational policy and real-world demands.
